What is PicayuneWeather.com?
PicayuneWeather.com was launched in 2008 with the goal of providing Picayune with accurate
up to the minute weather information. Since then the site has undergone many changes including the
addition of an archives section and an iPhone compatible version of the site.
The latest update has brought a redesigned archives section that features a much easier to read
data table as well as an automatic update feature that updates the weather data every five seconds!
PicayuneWeather.com strives to maintain the highest quality and most up-to-date
weather information available for Picayune, MS.
What makes PicayuneWeather.com different?
Unlike most other weather sites on the internet PicayuneWeather.com provides weather data actually
collected in Picayune. Most of the big sites provide data from Slidell, LA or Gulfport, MS. We also
update much more frequently. You can literally watch the data change on the page as the conditions
change!
Who runs PicayuneWeather.com?
This website is owned and maintained by Picayune native Matthew Sheffield. Matthew graduated from
Picayune Memorial High School in 2007.
How does it work?
Lots of radio waves, some fancy computer programming, and a little magic!
The first two are true at least. Solar powered weather sensors collect weather data and
transmit it to a dedicated computer. The computer then records the weather conditions
into a database and uploads them to a web server. When you access PicayuneWeather.com
your browser downloads a small script that continuously runs in the background and
fetches the latest data from the web server.
